Outline of International Exchange

Ryukoku University makes leading efforts in internationalization.

It utilizes the network spreading to universities and research institutes in various regions throughout the world and provides various international exchange programs for studying abroad and the short-term overseas training.

It makes efforts in improvement of system for tuition of long-term overseas study and foreign students, and in establishment of facilities to support international exchange in today's internationalized educational situation.

It also makes efforts to promote international research activities by utilizing a network with the various regions throughout the world.

International Exchange based on the Agreements with Overseas Universities and Research Institutes

Ryukoku University promotes the exchange with universities and research institutes worldwide to advance in the internationalization of education and research.
And also, it establishes the overseas bases of its own, collects the latest information on education and research from the foreign countries, and communicates actively with the people.

At present, the University has student exchange agreements with 32 universities in 18 countries and research exchange agreements with 30 universities and 2 organisations in 15 countries (as of November 2008).

Internationalization of Campus Active Acceptance of Foreign Students
Ryukoku University offers a wide range of programs for foreign students and advances in the internationalization of the university.
The International Center was established to develop various activities for the international exchange.
The Japanese Culture and Language Program (JCLP) provides instruction in the Japanese language and culture in preparing to enter a Japanese collage, university, or graduate school for foreign students [45 students from 11 countries as of November 2008].
Ryukoku University accepts more than 498 students from 30 countries [as of May 2007], and they enjoy their student life with other Japanese students.

Scholarship Allowance (Exemption of 50% of tuition fees for privately-financed foreign students and other scholarship systems)
Maintenance of Dormitories (Four student dormitories)
Foreign Student Advisers (who live in student dormitories to support foreign students' life)

Forming Overseas Bases to Enrich Further Internationalization of the University
Ryukoku University provides the overseas bases for exchange in addition to networking with universities and research institutes in various regions abroad.
For example, there is an affiliation with the Institute of Buddhist Studies (a Buddhist graduate seminary) in Berkeley, California, and the Buddhist Studies Center in Hawaii.
And the University promotes exchange activities and networking with the local communities.


Promotion of Global Research Activities
International research exchange began in 1982 with the establishment of the American Buddhist Academy in New York.
Later global research activities have been developed, such as establishment of the spring sessions held annually in the Institute of Buddhist Studies and the Buddhist Study Center, and academic exchange researches based on academic exchange agreements with seventeen universities and research institutes in foreign countries.
We, declaring ourselves as a glocal university, besides the above-mentioned arrangement of academic exchange are actively working to help various teaching staff to study abroad, to host symposiums with famous researchers from foreign countries, and to support overseas researchers' study.


Active Support for Our Students Studying Abroad
We arrange various overseas education systems and support systems to nurture human resources who will possess a high-level awareness of a cosmopolitan world and play an active part in internationalized society.

Support for Students Studying Abroad: Credit-Exchange System, Exemption of School Fees
Long-term overseas study program (for one year)
Support for privately-financed study abroad
Short-term overseas study programs (for about one month)
Concerning the long-term overseas study programs and privately-financed study abroad, Ryukoku University charges students only the enrollment fee for school expenses during their time studying abroad (and exempts them from the tuition fees).
