Application Guideline

Curriculum & Credits Needed for Completion / Entry to Japan / Student Life

1. Student Numbers

2. Eligibility

To qualify for admission into the JCLP, an applicant must fulfill one of the following conditions:
2.1- the applicant has completed a twelve-year curriculum of education in a foreign country, or one which is recognized as being of equivalent standard by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Science, Sports and Culture;

2.2- the applicant has completed a course of study the curriculum of which is recognized by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Science, Sports and Culture as equivalent to that of a Japanese high school;

2.3- the applicant is of an age equivalent to that of a Japanese high school graduate and is judged by this university to be of equivalent scholastic ability or higher.

*Please note: Those applicants who have previously been enrolled in another Japanese language institution inside Japan for a period of more than one year (up to the day of their inauguration into the JCLP) cannot be admitted.

3. Guarantor

In order to be admitted into the Ryukoku JCLP an applicant is usually required to have a guarantor who is living in Japan. If the applicant is able to cover the necessary fees and expenses themselves, however, or if those funds can be sent to them from their home country (provided that the existence of such funds can be documented) a member of the applicant's family may also act as their guarantor.

The guarantor has the final responsibility for all the applicant's actions and financial affairs while the applicant is studying in Japan. The guarantor is also required to guide the applicant towards observing all the laws of Japan as well as the rules and regulations of this university, to direct the applicant towards dedication to study and to keep them from involvement in any activity other than their purpose in coming to Japan.

As a rule the university requests that, if someone living in Japan, other than the applicant, is to be the applicant's financier (hereafter called the sponsor) that person also acts as the applicant's guarantor.

It is a condition of this admission into this program that an applicant 's guarantor, if living in Japan, continues to reside in Japan for the applicant 's entire study period. It is preferred that the guarantor lives either in or near Kyoto. It is also acceptable, however, if they live a long distance away. However, the guarantor must be prepared to come to the university at any time if required to do so. If the guarantor is a foreign national they must have been resident in Japan for an extended period and must know the Japanese language well. The guarantor, if living in Japan, must, as the applicants representative, cooperate in the application process, from submission of the application to completion of the application procedures. Correspondence from the university to the applicant will be sent via their guarantor. If the guarantor also lives abroad, correspondence will be sent directly to the applicant.
