Reopening of the university libraries (on 6/1)

With the highest priority placed on assuring safety, entry into the university campuses for educational and research purposes is prohibited, in principle. However, the university libraries (Fukakusa, Omiya, Seta) will reopen only for students who make prior application for library use, with full measures implemented to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.


■ Period
From June 1, 2020 (Mon) until further notice     


■ Hours
10:00–18:00 on weekdays; 10:00-17:00 on Saturdays
* Closed on Sundays, national holidays, and University-wide holidays


■ Accepted users
Undergraduate students (including Junior College students), graduate students, Japanese Culture and Language Program (JCLP) students, international exchange students
Full-time faculty members (including specially appointed faculty members), part-time lecturers, professors emeriti, researchers, research students, staff members


■ How to use (updated on May 29)

Prior application is required by the day before planned use. Be sure to make prior application on the questionnaire form on the portal site.
* Although the questionnaire is intended for students, faculty and staff members who want to use any of the university libraries are also kindly requested to fill out the same questionnaire.
* If you fall under an accepted user category but have no University-wide authentication ID and so cannot log in to the University’s portal site, send an email by the day before planned use as follows:
 Send the email to: mail-ref@ad.ryukoku.ac.jp
 Enter in the subject field: “Prior application for library use”
 Enter in the email body field: Your user ID and name; the library you want to use; the date when you want to use the library; the time period when you want to use the library 

 

■ Available services

Borrowing, returning and reserving library materials; applying to have library materials sent from other campuses; using the interlibrary loan (ILL) service and reference service
Using photocopiers installed in the libraries; using reading rooms; using OPAC terminals (connected to the internet)


■ Restrictions on service use

• The number of seats in reading rooms will be limited.

• The issuance of letters of introduction concerning students’ visits to other libraries for the ILL service will be restricted.


■ Unavailable services
• Using the Knowledge Commons (including group work rooms)


■ Requests to users

<Before entering the library>

• Measure your body temperature on the morning of the day of your planned library use to check that you do not have a fever before visiting the library.

• If you have symptoms such as fever, coughing and feeling weary, you will not be admitted to the library.

• Decide what library materials you use and locate them before you visit the library. (You are not allowed to spend a long time searching the library for materials.)
• Wear a mask while you are in the library, and disinfect or wash your hands before and after you use it.


<After entering the library>

• Complete your library use in a short time (within 60 minutes).

• Once you take materials from book shelves, be sure to put them on stands for returned materials, instead of returning them to the shelves by yourself. (The library staff will return them to the shelves after carrying out appropriate treatment.)

• Maintain sufficient distance from other users.


<Other>
• If library users prove to have likely been infected with COVID-19, information about entry into and exit from the library may be provided to the health center and other public organizations as needed.


■ Restrictions

• Since many other libraries have now suspended the ILL service, you may be unable to obtain reproductions, etc. of the library materials that you need.

• Entry into and exit from the Fukakusa Library is limited only to the entrance next to the counter on the first floor. (All other entrances are closed.) There are also other closed areas in the Library.
• Entry into and exit from the Seta Library is limited only to the entrance on the first floor of the main building. (All other entrances are closed.) There are also other closed areas in the Library.


■ Other

• The hours and service details at each library are subject to change according to the subsequent situation.
 Please keep updated on announcements and other information posted on the library website.

• While the libraries are open, the library material postal mailing service on online application, which has been provided since May 11 (Mon), will continue to be offered until the day before the beginning of the second semester (September 17 [Thu]). Using this service is also recommended.
 
• After the libraries reopen, online reservations of books, journal articles, etc. will no longer be accepted.
