The Graduate School of Law offers a diverse curriculum to help students develop research skills related to their fields of study and to cultivate the expertise necessary to become advanced professionals. In addition, it offers evening lectures to actively accommodate working adults who wish to study at graduate school.
In the Master’s Degree Program, each student selects a course or a program from among the Law Course, the Political Science Course, the Tax Law Program, the Integrated Research Program on Public Human Resources in Regional Areas, and the Integrated Research Program on Asia and Africa, and mainly takes subjects offered by the course or the program to which he or she belongs. A wide variety of subjects are offered, so students are encouraged to take those they deem necessary according to their own research plans.
The Doctoral Degree Program is open to those who have completed the Master’s Degree Program and wish to further deepen their research, but the destination of the Master’s Degree Program does not necessarily correspond to the starting point of the Doctoral Degree Program. In order to be admitted to the Doctoral Degree Program, students must meet rigorous requirements for research skills and basic academic knowledge.
POINT
The Graduate School of Law provides thorough small-group education in both the Master’s Degree Program and the Doctoral Degree Program, offering meticulous research guidance tailored to each graduate student’s research interests and level of achievement.
Many classes are conducted in a seminar format. The presenter (a graduate student) will report on a specialized topic related to law and political science, and all participants, including the instructor, will hold discussions based on the report. This allows students not only to think deeply about the topic, but also to develop advanced research skills. In addition, students can receive one-on-one research guidance from their supervisors when writing their master’s thesis and project research papers.
Each student will conduct research under a supervisor to become an independent researcher and write a doctoral dissertation for the degree of Doctor of Juridical Science. Also in this process, students can receive one-on-one research guidance from their supervisors, but they are expected to conduct more in-depth research on the topic they have set for themselves and write a highly specialized dissertation.
