Graduate School of Letters

There are eight areas of specialization in both masters’ and doctorate programs of the Graduate School of Letters. These are: Shin Buddhism, Buddhism, philosophy, education, Japanese history, Oriental history, Japanese language and literature, and English language and English and American literature.
In each area of specialization, professors, whose cutting-edge research makes full use of Ryukoku University’s invaluable collections of rare research materials, fully support students’ research activities. The department also positively accepts international students and strives to meet the diverse needs of recurrent and/or lifelong education for working people, including educators.
In April 2004, a clinical psychotherapist course was established in the area of clinical psychology within the Education Concentration and in 2008 Ryukoku was designated as a first class school in this field.
