2025年7月10日（木）、龍谷大学に留学中の学生6名（イタリア、インド、ウクライナ、ガボン、台湾、ドイツ）が、神戸龍谷中学校高等学校の国際理解教育の授業の一環として実施された国際交流イベントに参加しました。

イベントでは、まず「母国語じゃんけん」を行い、その後、中高生から寄せられた以下のような質問に答えました。

「どうして日本で勉強しようと思ったの？」
「出身国では何が流行っているの？」
「留学に来るためにどんな準備をしたの？」

留学生たちは、中高生にわかりやすい英語で一生懸命質問に答えたり、自国の文化や言語を紹介したりしていました。日本に留学している学生から、「日本の魅力」や「留学準備」について直接話を聞いた中高生たちからは、「留学に行くのにすごく参考になった」との感想があり、今回のイベントは、留学への背中を押す貴重な機会となったようです。

・日本の中高生が自国をどのように見ているのかを知ることができて、興味深かったです。
・日本の中高生はシャイだと思っていましたが、会話が始まるとみんな積極的で、とても興味を持ってくれました。会話をとおして、彼らとのつながりを感じることができました。
・日本の高校に行けたことが嬉しかったです。みんな優しく、明るく、活発でした。
・話すことができてとても楽しかったです。もっと長く交流していたかったです。
・中高生との交流は楽しかったです。一緒にアクティビティをしたり会話をすることは新鮮で有意義な時間を過ごすことができました。

2025年7月7日（月）から7月19日（土）まで、龍谷大学の海外協定校の学生を対象に、短期留学プログラム「R-STEP（Ryukoku Short-Term Experience Program）」を開催しています。今年は7カ国から10名の学生が参加しました。7月12日（土）プログラム5日目のフィールドトリップでは学生バディと共に嵐山エリアを訪れました。印象的な竹林と渡月橋は日本らしさが溢れており、参加者にとっても忘れられない1日となりました。
以下、R-STEP参加学生のレポートを紹介します。

Kyoto’s Arashiyama district is a historic area renowned for its bamboo groves, scenic river views, and rich cultural heritage. A visit here offers us a blend of nature, spirituality, and traditional arts.

Tenryuji Temple
A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Tenryuji is a Zen Buddhist temple famous for its stunning garden designed by Muso Soseki. The garden’s "borrowed scenery" technique incorporates the Arashiyama mountains, creating a serene atmosphere. The temple also houses priceless Buddhist artworks and serves as a center for meditation and study.

Daikakuji Temple
Once an imperial villa, Daikakuji is another significant Zen temple with a vast pond garden. It played a key role in Japanese history, hosting emperors and serving as a site for political negotiations. We could admire its sliding door paintings (fusuma-e) and learn something new about Buddhist rituals.

Taiko Drumming Experience  
A highlight of the trip was the Taiko drumming workshop, where we learned basic rhythms on traditional Japanese drums. This immersive experience highlighted the importance of discipline and teamwork in Japanese performing arts.  

Sutra Copying at Terakoya
At Terakoya, a temple school, we practiced shakyo (sutra copying) with brush and ink. This meditative activity, rooted in Zen Buddhism, promotes mindfulness and patience while deepening one’s appreciation for calligraphy and scripture.  

Conclusion
The Arashiyama area offers a profound cultural journey, blending nature, history, and hands-on traditions. From Zen gardens to Taiko rhythms and sutra copying, each experience fosters a deeper connection to Japan’s spiritual and artistic legacy.  Every international student should visit this place if they want to experience Japan.

京都の嵐山地区は、竹林や美しい川の景観、豊かな文化遺産で知られる歴史あるエリアです。ここを訪れることで、自然、精神性、そして伝統芸術が融合した体験を楽しむことができます。

天龍寺
ユネスコ世界遺産にも登録されている天龍寺は、夢窓疎石によって設計された美しい庭園で有名な禅寺です。庭園には「借景」の技法が用いられており、嵐山の山々を背景に取り入れることで、静寂で落ち着いた雰囲気が生まれています。寺院内には貴重な仏教美術が収蔵されており、瞑想や学びの場としても重要な役割を果たしています。

大覚寺
かつては皇族の別荘として使われていた大覚寺も、重要な禅寺のひとつです。広大な池泉庭園を有し、歴代の天皇が訪れ、政治的な交渉の場としても利用されてきました。襖絵（ふすま絵）を鑑賞したり、仏教儀式について新たな知識を得ることができました。

太鼓体験
今回の旅のハイライトのひとつが、和太鼓のワークショップでした。伝統的な和太鼓を使って基本的なリズムを学び、日本の舞台芸術における規律とチームワークの大切さを体感することができました。

寺子屋での写経体験
寺子屋では、筆と墨を使って写経（しゃきょう）を体験しました。この禅仏教に根ざした瞑想的な活動は、心を落ち着け、忍耐力を養うとともに、書道や経典への理解を深める貴重な機会となりました。

まとめ
嵐山エリアは、自然、歴史、そして体験型の伝統文化が融合した、深い文化的旅を提供してくれます。禅庭園から太鼓のリズム、写経まで、どの体験も日本の精神性と芸術的遺産への理解を深めてくれました。日本を体験したいと願うすべての留学生に、ぜひ訪れてほしい場所です。

Today we explored the Arashiyama area in the west of Kyoto. We started the day with a taiko (Japanese drum) experience. We got to watch a short performance of the drums and then with help from a teacher tried drumming ourselves. It was fun trying to follow the different rhythms and after we also had the pleasure of hearing a shamisen performance. We then set off to the Daikakuji temple where we tried sutra copying. It was a very meditative and spiritual experience for me. The temple itself also was beautiful and had a gorgeous view of a large pond. Afterwards we had lunch at a Japanese buffet where I tried many different new foods, I especially liked the matcha flavoured desserts. This finished the first part of the day.

Having enjoyed lunch we walked to the Tenryūji temple. Here we learned about Japanese gardens and spent a while enjoying the view of a particularly beautiful one, which incorporated the surrounding mountains into its design (such design is called shakkei). Having explored the temple we made our way to the bamboo forest near the temple. It was truly impressive to walk through such tall bamboo. We now had some free time and a group of us took our guides’ recommendation to visit the Arashiyama monkey park. We crossed the famous Togetsukyō bridge appreciating the views from it. On the way we also saw some traditional rickshaws. After a short hike up a mountain we were amazed by the many cute monkeys freely walking and playing in the park. There was even a fantastic view of the low-rise Kyoto.

I really enjoyed the day at Arashiyama. Not only did I see some spectacular places, but also learnt more about Japanese culture and got some new experiences.

今日は京都の西側にある嵐山エリアを探索しました。太鼓体験から始まり、まず短い演奏を鑑賞し、その後、先生の指導のもとで、実際に太鼓をたたいてみました。様々なリズムに合わせるのは難しかったですが、とても楽しかったです。その後、三味線の演奏を聴くことができ幸せでした。そして、私たちは大覚寺にて写経をしました。それは非常に静かで心落ち着く経験でした。大覚寺は非常に美しく、豪華な大きな池の景色が印象的でした。昼食では日本食ビュッフェを食べ、様々な新しい日本食を試しました。その中でもお気に入りは抹茶味のデザートです。これにて、午前の部は終了です。

昼食を楽しんだ後は天龍寺に向かい、日本庭園について学びました。周囲の山々を取り込んだ「借景」というデザインの美しい庭園を眺めながら、しばらくゆったりと過ごしました。天龍寺を見学した後、近くの竹林へと向かいました。竹林の中を歩くのはとても印象的でした。その後、自由時間にはツアーガイドおすすめの嵐山モンキーパークへと行くことにしました。渡月橋を渡りながら景色を楽しみ、途中で伝統的な人力車も見かけました。少し山を登るとかわいい猿たちが自由に歩き回り、遊ぶ様子に癒されました。山頂からは低層の京都の街並みを一望できる素晴らしい景色も楽しめました。

嵐山での一日は素晴らしく、素晴らしい場所だけでなく日本の文化を学べたことや、新しい経験をできたことがよかったです。

龍谷大学は2025年7月7日（月）から7月19日（土）まで、龍谷大学の海外協定校の学生を対象に、短期留学プログラム「R-STEP（Ryukoku Short-Term Experience Program）」を開催しています。今年は7カ国から10名の学生が参加しました。7月11日（金）プログラム4日目には学生バディと共に東山エリアを訪れました。東山エリアでは着付け体験と寿司メイキングという日本の伝統的な文化に触れることができたフィールドトリップとなりました。
以下、R-STEP参加学生のレポートを紹介します。

Today, I participated in the field trip in the Higashiyama area of Kyoto. The activities included kimono rental, visits to Kiyomizu-dera and the Ninenzaka and Sannenzaka streets, as well as a sushi-making experience. This event allowed me to deeply engage with traditional Japanese culture and enhanced my understanding of the local way of life. It was truly an unforgettable experience.

In the morning, we first took a bus to a kimono rental shop. The whole process was simple and fun. We started by selecting yukata (light summer kimonos), then freely matched them with belts and handbags. The staff were very professional and efficient. When I wasn’t sure about my style, they kindly offered suggestions and helped me put together a complete outfit. We also wore traditional Japanese sandals. Although they were a bit uncomfortable to walk in, the entire outfit looked great.

After changing into our kimonos, we walked together to the famous Kiyomizu-dera Temple, passing through streets full of historical charm. Upon arrival, our guide introduced us to the temple’s historical background and shared some interesting cultural stories. The temple grounds were beautiful. We took photos while admiring the architecture and natural scenery, feeling the strong spiritual and cultural atmosphere. What impressed me most was the ritual of drawing water for blessings. The three streams of water flowing from the mountain symbolize health, love, and wealth. Everyone used a ladle to catch the water and took part in a simple ritual before drinking it — it is said to bring good luck. This was a unique experience that helped me better understand the Japanese reverence for nature and spirituality.

Next, we continued along the Ninenzaka and Sannenzaka streets, which are full of character and charm. There were many lovely shops along the way, selling Japanese snacks, souvenirs, Ghibli-themed products, and more. It was a fun area to explore and perfect for taking memorable photos.

Around noon, we gathered for a sushi-making class — a fun and engaging cooking activity. Under the guidance of a professional chef, we learned how sushi is made and the characteristics of its ingredients, especially the different methods of making different sushi like nigiri and maki sushi. During the hands-on experience, we used fresh ingredients, and everyone managed to make delicious and visually appealing sushi. It was a rewarding activity that gave me deeper insight into Japanese cuisine.

In the afternoon, we had free time. A few classmates and I strolled around the Kawaramachi area in central Kyoto with two Japanese students from Ryukoku University. We enjoyed shopping and soaking in the local atmosphere. Afterward, we returned our kimonos and ended the day at a cozy space theme tcafé. We relaxed over drinks and had great conversations, which made me feel a sense of cultural connection with our Japanese peers.

Today’s activities were enriching. From wearing traditional clothing and visiting temples to making sushi and engaging in cultural exchange, every part helped me gain a deeper understanding of both traditional and modern aspects of Japanese life. These hands-on experiences strengthened my interest in Japanese culture.

I am also very grateful to the two tour guides and the students from Ryukoku University who accompanied us throughout the day. Their friendliness and helpfulness made the experience even more complete and memorable. In conclusion, this field trip not only broadened my horizons but also made me look forward to exploring more of Japan’s culture and way of life in the future.

本日、京都の東山エリアでのフィールドトリップに参加しました。活動内容は、着物レンタル、清水寺の参拝、二年坂・三年坂の散策、そして寿司作り体験など、多岐にわたりました。日本の伝統文化に深く触れることができ、地元の暮らしへの理解も深まり、忘れられない一日となりました。

朝はまず、バスで着物レンタル店へ向かいました。浴衣（夏用の軽い着物）を選び、帯やバッグを自由に組み合わせるという楽しいプロセスでした。スタッフの方々はとても親切で、スタイルに迷った際には的確なアドバイスをくださり、素敵なコーディネートを完成させてくれました。草履も履きましたが、歩くのは少し大変でした。それでも、全体の装いはとても美しく、気分が高まりました。

着物に着替えた後は、歴史の趣を感じる街並みを歩きながら、清水寺へ向かいました。到着後、ガイドの方が寺の歴史や文化的な逸話を紹介してくださり、境内の美しさに感動しました。写真を撮りながら、建築や自然の景観を楽しみ、精神的・文化的な雰囲気を強く感じました。特に印象的だったのは、御利益を願って水を汲む儀式です。山から流れる三本の水は、それぞれ健康・恋愛・金運を象徴しており、柄杓で水をすくって飲むことで運が開けると言われています。自然や精神性を大切にする日本の文化を深く理解する貴重な体験でした。
その後、二年坂・三年坂を散策しました。風情ある通りには、和菓子やお土産、ジブリ関連の商品などを扱う可愛らしいお店が並び、写真撮影にもぴったりな楽しいエリアでした。
昼頃には、寿司作り体験がありました。プロの料理人の指導のもと、寿司の作り方や食材の特徴について学びました。握り寿司や巻き寿司など、種類ごとの作り方を教わりながら、実際に新鮮な食材を使って調理しました。見た目も美しく、美味しい寿司が完成し、日本料理への理解が深まりました。

午後は自由時間があり、数名のクラスメートと龍谷大学の日本人学生２名と一緒に、京都中心部の河原町エリアを散策しました。買い物を楽しみながら、地元の雰囲気を満喫しました。着物を返却した後は、宇宙をテーマにしたカフェでゆったりと過ごし、飲み物を楽しみながら会話を交わしました。日本の学生との交流を通じて、文化的なつながりを感じることができました。

今日の活動は非常に充実しており、伝統衣装の着用、寺院の訪問、寿司作り、文化交流など、すべての体験が日本の伝統と現代文化への理解を深める助けとなりました。これらの実体験を通じて、日本文化への興味がさらに強まりました。

また、一日を通して同行してくださった２名のガイドの方々と龍谷大学の学生の皆さんには心から感謝しています。彼らの親切さとサポートのおかげで、より充実した思い出深い体験となりました。今回のフィールドトリップは、視野を広げるだけでなく、今後も日本の文化や暮らしをもっと探求したいという気持ちを強くしてくれました。

みんなの仏教SDGs WEBマガジン｢ReTACTION｣（リタクション）の新着記事案内

 

2025年2月10日、龍谷大学は台湾農業部林業及自然保育署及新竹分署、里山賽夏（以下、サイシャット族）、龍谷の森における友好森林関係の覚書を締結しました。この取り組みは、2024年3月に国内の大学で初めて発出した「龍谷大学 ネイチャーポジティブ宣言」の内容の具現化の一つです。ネイチャーポジティブとは、2030年までに生物多様性の損失を止め、回復を軌道にのせる世界目標。

これまでも「自省利他」の行動哲学を掲げ「仏教SDGs」を推進しネイチャーポジティブに資する活動を行ってきた龍谷大学の宣言は、友好森林関係という新たな循環へとつながっています。

　7月9日（水）「福祉職場就職フェア」を成就館で開催しました。
「きょうと福祉人材育成認証制度」で認証を受けている12法人の方々、京都府福祉人材サポートセンターのご協力のもと、社会福祉現場実習のための福祉職場の情報収集、福祉現場の理解を深めることから職業選択の幅を広げるための学生のキャリア支援の一環として、毎年開催しています。
　各法人の1分間スピーチでは，高齢者や障害者・児、子どもの支援など、日々の取り組みを紹介していただき、学生は興味・関心をもった法人のブースで、職員の方々に法人の理念のもと実施されている事業、各職種の業務内容、やりがい等について詳しくお話を聴き、今後の実習や進路に役立てられる良き機会となりました。
