2024年7月2日（火）から13日（土）まで、海外協定校の学生を対象に、短期留学プログラム「R-STEP（Ryukoku Short-Term Experience Program）」を開催しています。今回は７ヶ国から１９名の学生が参加。7月6日（土）プログラム5日目は、嵐山エリアへのフィールドトリップです。大覚寺、天龍寺、渡月橋、竹林へ行きました。和太鼓体験、写経体験もしました。
以下、R-STEP参加学生のレポートを紹介します。

On the 6th of July we went to Arashiyama Area!
・JAPANESE DRUM EXPERIENCE
The first thing we did was to watch a performance with Japanese drums. It was extremely impactful! Later we also had the chance to learn how to play with the drums. It was super fun! In the end we also had the chance to watch a shamisen performance of some anime openings!
・DAIKAKUJI TEMPLE
After watching the beautiful performances, we went to see Daikakuji Temple. It was beautiful and had walls with most of the common themes we had already seen and had been explained in Nishi
Hongwanj Temple: the tigers, the various birds and flowers. Therefore, I was always looking out to see similar themes and had special attention on the ceiling since we learned how there may be beautiful painting and even an easter egg (like the cat in Nishi Hongwanj Temple). Sadly, I did not catch any easter egg but there were a lot of beautiful paintings on the ceilings. Involving the temple was also a beautiful pond.
・CALLIGRAPHY EXPERIENCE
Still in Daikakuji temple we were able to try some Japanese calligraphy. At first it was hard, but I started feeling more confident as the time went on. We started by writing copying in calligraphy
the Hannya Shingyo Sutra. After we also draw the buddha image and could make a wish. It was relaxing to spend some time only focusing on following the lines with the brush. After writing our wish we also learned how to pray for it in front of the buddha.
・JAPANESE BUFFET
After exploring the Daikaku-ji temple it was time for lunch! We had a Japanese buffet with lots of delicious Japanese foods to try. My favorite was the Yakisoba!
・TENRYU-JI TEMPLE
After eating and having some free time we went to Tenryu-ji temple. Even though the Temple was not as big as the previous temple, it was surrounded by a beautiful garden which included a smaller pond. Over the garden there were a lot of native flowers and some beautiful sculptures.
・BAMBOO GROVE
Leaving the Tenryu-ji temple garden by the North Gate we get to the bamboo grove. As soon as we enter the grove it seem like we are far away from the civilization. The bamboo is so tall is hard to see anything but the bamboo and the sky. Truly a breathtaking view!
・TOGETSUKYO BRIDGE
After leaving the Bamboo grove I took the exit that led to the riverside. Taking this path, I was able to see the beautiful Togetsukyo bridge. In the end I did not have time to cross the bridge but the sight of the bridge and all the boats going around was very peaceful in the middle of the busy shopping streets.

7月6日、私たちは嵐山エリアへ行きました！
・和太鼓体験
最初に、私たちは和太鼓のパフォーマンスをみました。とてもインパクトがありました！その後、和太鼓を学ぶ機会もありました。とても楽しかったです！最後に、三味線によるアニメのオープニング曲のパフォーマンスをみることができました。
・大覚寺
美しいパフォーマンスを見た後、私たちは大覚寺を観に行きました。とても美しく、また大覚寺の壁には、すでに西本願寺でも説明を受けた共通のテーマ（虎、様々な鳥と花々）がありました。西本願寺の猫のような、美しい絵やイースターエッグがあるかもしれないことを学んだので、私は同じようなテーマがないか目を光らせて壁を見ていました。残念ながら、私はイースターエッグを見つけることはできませんでしたが、天井にはたくさんの美しい絵が描かれていました。また、大覚寺には美しい池もありました。
・写経体験
大覚寺では、写経体験をすることもできました。初めは大変でしたが、時間が経つにつれ、自信がついてきました。私たちは般若心経の写経を始めました。その後、仏陀の絵を描いて願いを込めました。筆で線を追うことだけに集中して、時間を過ごすのはリラックスできました。願いを書いた後は、仏陀の前での祈り方も学びました。
・日本食ビュッフェ
大覚寺での散策後は、ランチの時間です！おいしい日本食をたくさん食べることができる日本食ビュッフェに行きました。私のお気に入りは焼きそばでした！
・天龍寺
ランチと自由時間の後は、天龍寺へ行きました。大覚寺ほど天龍寺は大きくはありませんでしたが、小さい池もあるとても美しいお庭に囲まれていました。お庭にはたくさんの自生の花と美しい彫刻がありました。
・竹林の森
天龍寺の庭園を北門から出て、竹林へ向かいました。竹林に入った途端、文明から遠く離れてしまったような気がしました。竹はとても高く、竹と空以外何も見えませんでした。本当に息をのむような眺めでした！
・渡月橋
竹林を出て、川辺に続く出口にでました。この道をいくと、美しい渡月橋を見ることができました。結局、橋を渡る時間はなかったのですが、にぎやかな商店街の真ん中でみる渡月橋と行き交う船の光景は、とても穏やかでした。

Going to the Arashhiyama area was a very eventful and exciting day! The day began with a visit to a beautiful home where we had a traditional drumming experience. This was the first time I had tried the drums; therefore, the experience was so much more valuable being in Japan. The musical experience enticed my love for instruments once more and made me want to pick up playing the saxophone again.
We then went to two different temples, each with a stunning array of greenery, water, and architecture. The specific temples were Tenryuji and Daikakuji. Tenryuji temple was much quieter and less crowded than Daikakuji, but the beauty in both places was astounding. In between the visit to both temples, we had the opportunity to try a buffet style lunch, which was one of my favourite meals I had had so far in Japan.
There were many food and dessert options, but the strawberry-flavoured cake was definitely my favourite item.
There were many stores along the street to Daikakuji temple from the restaurant we had our lunch at. I was able to buy many unique gifts for friends and family, as well as myself. I am grateful for the opportunity and time that we had to do so, and I look forward to seeing the reactions of my loved ones to what I was able to acquire for them.
The bamboo forest at the end of Diakakuji temple was personally my favourite part of the whole day trip because I love pandas. Unfortunately, I did not see any pandas at the forest, but the bamboo trees were a splendid sight to see.
I am grateful for the opportunity that RSTEP provided to attend the Arashiyama Area because it was one of my favourite places to attend, and I was able to get many beautiful pictures while learning about the fascinating and rich history of Japan.

嵐山エリアに行くことは、とてもイベントが多くわくわくする１日でした！この日は、伝統的な和太鼓の体験ができる素敵なお宅を訪問することから始まりました。私にとって初めての経験でしたが、日本でのこの経験はとても貴重でした。この音楽体験は、私の楽器への愛情を再び呼び起こし、サックスをまた演奏したいと思わせてくれました。私たちはその後、緑と水と建築が見事な2つの異なる寺院に行きました。天龍寺と大覚寺です。天龍寺は大覚寺よりも静かで人も少なかったが、どちらの場所も美しさに驚かされました。両方の寺院に行く間に、ビュッフェ式の昼食を食べる機会がありました。いまのところ、日本でお気に入りの食事のひとつです。そこにはたくさんの食事とデザートがありましたが、イチゴのケーキは間違いなく私のお気に入りでした。
昼食をとったレストランから大覚寺に向かう通り沿い、にはたくさんのお店がありました。自分だけでなく、友人や家族へのユニークなお土産をたくさん買うことができました。このような機会と時間を持てたことに感謝し、大切な人たちのために手に入れたお土産を、彼らが見たときの反応を見ることが楽しみです。大覚寺の先にある竹林は、パンダが大好きな私にとって、今日のフィールドトリップの中で個人的に私のお気に入りのスポットでした。残念ながら竹林ではパンダを見ることはできませんでしたが、竹林は見ごたえがありました。
嵐山エリアは私のお気に入りの場所のひとつで、日本の魅力的で豊かな歴史を学びながら、たくさんの美しい写真を撮ることができたので、R-STEPプログラムが嵐山エリアに参加する機会をくれたことに感謝しています。
