Participation in the University Coalition

We have joined the University Coalition for Carbon Neutrality (hereinafter referred to as the “University Coalition”), which was launched mainly by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology and the Ministry of the Environment, toward the realization of carbon neutrality by 2050.

The inaugural meeting of the University Coalition was held on Thursday, July 29, 2021. We have participated in the Zero Carbon Campus WG, the Regional Zero Carbon WG, and the Innovation WG to achieve carbon neutrality.

In fiscal 2021, we revised our Basic Eco-friendly Campus Policy at the Global Warming Countermeasures Promotion Committee and set the following medium- to long-term goals.

  1. We aim to achieve a Zero Carbon Campus with net zero emissions of greenhouse gases or carbon dioxide.
  2. We aim to switch all electricity consumed in the University to renewable energy by 2039 (by 2050 at the latest) by using solar energy and other natural resources, purchasing renewable energy, and taking other measures.
  3. We aim to significantly reduce the amount of paper we use by introducing paperless meetings and taking other measures.
  4. We aim to further improve the recycling rate of industrial waste generated through our education and research activities.

To achieve the above medium- to long-term goals, we will implement initiatives toward achieving carton neutrality while coordinating with the University Coalition.
