Research Institute for Buddhist Culture

-Covering a wide range of research including Central Asian culture and translations of Buddhist scriptures-

Established in 1961, the Institute of Buddhist Cultural Studies is the longest standing research institute at Ryukoku University. With the aim of conducting collaborative research and international exchange in Buddhist culture and related studies, and contributing to the progress of academic research, the Institute has developed internationally distinct cultural research activities. Success has been achieved in a wide variety of research on Buddhist cultures covering India, Central Asia, China, and Japan. Studies on Central Asia, Buddhist text translations, and Buddhist terminology from the entire Buddhist can be conducted only at Ryukoku University because of its many rare primary sources. Research results are made available through the publication of the Ryukoku University Institute of Buddhist Culture Series, lectures, and discussion groups.
